About Me
I grew up in Holland, Michigan and attended West Ottawa Public Schools. As an older sister, I had many experiences playing, supporting, and learning with my brothers. Throughout middle and high school, I developed an interest in children and education. This was confirmed through teaching Sunday School at Christ Memorial Church, volunteering with children programs through National Honors Society, and electing a co-op hour in a first grade classroom at Lakewood Elementary school during my senior year of high school.
I decided to pursue elementary education at Michigan State University because of my natural passion and their highly ranked program. While attending undergrad at MSU, I was given many opportunities to work with a diverse group of students from various backgrounds with different funds of knowledge. This included classroom placements, tutoring experiences associated with MSU and privately, leading cub scouts for first through fifth grade boys, and teaching at Tutoring Time and the People’s Church Preschool. This concluded with my year-long student teaching internship in a second grade classroom at Woodbridge Elementary School in Zeeland Public Schools.

I was blessed to find a fourth and fifth grade teaching position at Black River Public School. My two years of experience with Montessori have been inspiring and motivating. I appreciate the responsibility that is developed at a young age, the built in collaborative structure, and the foundation that allows for students to be working at their own independent level and pace while working toward required expectations. I have truly fallen in love with the Montessori approach in the classroom. I am excited to see the merging of the Common Core Standards with the Montessori philosophy.
I recently completed my master's degree at Michigan State University. My program allowed me to focus in both literacy and special education. I believe additional understanding and knowledge in these two areas will help me to better accommodate my future students. I look forward to seeing what my teaching future holds!
